School Supplies |
Who loves the line in You’ve Got Mail about a “bouquet of newly sharpened pencils?” Me. Me. I love the movie. The line about fall and school supplies always gets me. Maybe it’s because I can write with school supplies or maybe it just reminds me of the adventure of a new school year — learning new things and meeting new people.
I especially enjoy all the back-to-school sales in July and August. I may not like them so much when my kiddo enters school. Our neighborhood supply list is pretty extensive. I’ve joked that I need to buy supplies now to be ready for his first day in three years.
My cart runneth over recently as I’ve scooped up the penny deals and specials. I can’t resist a great deal on tools for school
Are you ready for school or fall? I am!
I love back-to-school sales.
And I love that line from You’ve Got Mail too.
There are so many good lines in that movie!
But back to school supplies … so, so much fun to shop for my daughter — and myself. There are always new versions of tried and true favorites. Have you seen the new fun composition books? Love ’em!
Beth, Yes lots of new versions “to test” in the fall during the back-to-school sales!
Totally ready for fall. Fall is my favorite season. 🙂
Kelley, In Texas, fall never seemed to arrive. Now, I’m in a state where I get to experience it again.
Oh my, “You’ve Got Mail” is one of my favorite movies. Have you listened to Nora Ephron’s commentary in the extras on the DVD? Priceless.
I, too, love school supplies. And the beginning of fall. It feels more like the New Year to me than January 1. So many possibilities!
If someone brought me a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils, I would melt. (Wouldn’t hurt if he looked like Tom Hanks.)
Beth, I might melt too.
I love buying school supplies, but for another reason. When the sales begin, I start stocking up for the annual Operation Christmas Child Shoebox program. I love filling these special boxes with school supplies, toys, and hygiene items,t-shirts and flashlights. Every year 8.5 millision boxes travel all over the world. The last few years my boxes have gone to kids in the Ukraine, Jordan and Middle East. So, I love the huge markdown summer sales!
That’s a great idea Patricia. You can get more for your money during the sales than trying to buy crayons at Christmas.
As fun as supplies are to shop for, I think I over-bought last year! If I start shopping in my own pantry, I’ll bet I have 50% of the stuff my kids need already!
Should take a page from Pat’s book (above) and pack some Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. 🙂
I hope you were able to find many of your supplies before the school bell rings!
I LOVE school supplies, so much so I am considering a post for it. You can take the school out of me, but not the supplies!!!!
I agree: You can take the school out of me, but not the supplies!!!! Of course, I’ve been buying a few supplies for my community college classes. Colored pencils, crayons, etc. 🙂 Fun.
What a great little post, Stacy! I’ve had a long-standing love affair with anything “paper”…so of course, school supplies were always a joy to purchase. The new notebook, sharpened pencils with clean erasers, little plastic zippered case to carry pencils, pens and small ruler…aaahhhh…great memories.:)
I love paper products. I used to order things from Current. Now, I can run down to the catalog outlet anytime.
I no longer have a child in school, but I do still like to find deals on school supplies. As a writer, those supplies definitely come in handy. Some of the stuff I get can be donated to our church for the young ones to use.
Yes. Fun supplies for writers.
As a volunteer at my son’s school, I have spent many hours sharpening pencils for the teachers. Not one of my favorite tasks:)
Our neighborhood school asks students to sharpen all their pencils before school. 🙂
When I was a kid, I loved getting ready for a new school year. Now I mourn the loss of summer. I miss my kids when they’re in school.
Susan, I haven’t experienced that empty nest yet during the school day.
I love school supplies, too. I haven’t been to the Springs lately to take advantage of the sales, but there’s less fun stuff to buy when your kids are in high school. No more crayons, sharpeners & glue.

I can imagaine high school isn’t as fun as crayons and colored pencils.
I’m looking around my desk and realize how I love the small black crate with all the random supplies tossed in, the multitude of pins and sticky notes, and the colorful paper clips clinging to the big black magnet. I’m not quite ready for Fall; I’m hanging on to these last two weeks of summer vacation. But I will be!
Angie, I used to love paper clips before I was a mom. Now, I hide those. I just utlize my piling skills to sort. 🙂
I love back-to-school shipping too 🙂 and You’ve Got Mail is one of my favorites, because of the little bookshop and all the children’s books 🙂 Somehow September often feels like the new year just as much as January!
Susanna, The movie does have it all.
So ready for crisp nights and hot cocoa (and yes, school supplies).
Yummy. Hot cocoa. I forgot about that.
Is Enzo going to school already? Wow, Hannah is too. I’ve got the pleasure of school supply shopping this week, I hope there’s still some left!
Catherine, He isn’t. He just has a Mama, who loves supplies. We donated some to our church and to a local school drive. Good luck with your shopping!
