On the Move!
Last week, I talked about Peepsqueak! being on the move for Perfect Picture Book Friday. This week, well, I’m on the move. I wish I could say I have a new website ready, but that’s not an announcement for this week.
Since the SCBWI conference in Denver, I compressed homework, family life, a little fun, etc. into a short week. Then, we traveled to the Black Hills of South Dakota to visit with Hubby’s parents. Enzo enjoyed visiting Grandma and Grandpa. I took lots of shadow people pictures. Why? I’m not sure, but I’m sure it will reveal itself to me one day.
I researched and sketched out a draft for a non-fiction picture book idea — perhaps the beginning of my October 12 x 12 in 2012 draft.
Instead of adding another book to the PPBF list, I’m spending my weekend catching up with books from the last two weeks (and on homework). I picked up a couple of picture books at Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial. These may make a future post.
I will be guest blogging at Beverly Diehl’s on Oct. 8 for her series about Domestic Violence Awareness month. I worked at a domestic violence shelter and talk about that experience.
Have a wonderful weekend.

So glad you had a nice week and visit with Enzo’s grandparents. And your mention of books from Crazy Horse etc. reminded me that I have a great picture book somewhere that I got from a gold mine in CA – I’ve got to find it so I can add it the PPB list! Have a lovely weekend 🙂

Ah, a gold mine in California. Sounds perfect. We have a lot of those in a nearby area.

Good luck! I’d love to hear about the Mount Rushmore book! 🙂

      Thanks Erik!

You’ve been busy. I’ve always wanted to visit Mt. Rushmore, my son and his wife did earlier in the year and I have lots of pictures to look at. Maybe someday I’ll get to go, too.

    1. Stacy S. Jensen

Janet, When you get a chance, you should visit Mount Rushmore. My husband’s family has visite a million times, but I always want to go when I visit the Black Hills. It’s amazing.

I adore that shadow photo with Enzo bursting through the upper left frame! So cute!

My favorite Mt Rushmore picture book is HANGING OFF JEFFERSON’S NOSE by Tina Coury. Her path to publication story is incredible!

    1. Stacy S. Jensen

Cathy, I haven’t heard of that title. I’ll look it up. Lots of fun books on Mount Rushmore.

Sounds like you had a fun, busy week! Glad Enzo had a nice visit with the grandparents.

Yes. Enzo had a wonderful time with the grandparents. With all the traveling, he was in a good mood most of the time too.

Love the shadow pic! Awesome that you’ve done a non-fic pb. I keep wanting to do one and then forget 🙂

    1. Stacy S. Jensen

Catherine, Sounds like you need to do a non-fiction book on memory. 🙂 hee hee.

  7. Coleen Patrick

I like the shadow photos Stacy! 🙂
    Have a great weekend!

Coleen, They are growing on me too.

  8. Lara Schiffbauer

I love the shadow people pictures, too. I thought it was a unique and artsy idea!

    1. Stacy S. Jensen

Lara, That photo was taken near you (or as near as one can get in Wyoming). The Chugwater reststop is becoming a family staple … since our wedding. Of course, we didn’t realize it would be at the time.

Despite a busy week, it sounds like you had a lovely time.
I look forward to your guest blog post.
    Happy Thanksgiving

      Thanks Tracy.

Hmmm. The shadow people pictures are mysterious. Good visuals for future blog posts. I’d like to get to a different SCBWI Conference someday. I always attend the Northern Ohio one. Time for a change. Do you recommend Denver’s?

  11. Stacy S. Jensen

I enjoyed Denver. It’s always nice to have a good conference close by. There is a Big Sur planned for next May that should be a wonderful experience. With any conference, I always study the workshops offered before making a decision.

I have missed you!!!!! I am thankful you had such a nice visit with Enzo’s grandparents. The non-fiction picture book sounds wonderful. I am moving to WordPress in November. My blog was hacked. It takes me an hour just to log in now. And I have to log in so I can make comments on all my pals blogs. It’s a mess! Anyway, I miss you and am sending you hugs. Good luck with the classes.

    1. Stacy S. Jensen

Good luck with the change. I’ll see you once you are settled. I hope all is well.

  13. Jennifer Rumberger

I love the Black Hills. How fun you have relatives there. I hope to take my boys there sometime in the future.

Hope you were able to get all caught up! 🙂

    1. Stacy S. Jensen

Jennifer, yes the Black Hills are wonderful. I’m still working on the long-weekend theory of catching up. So, I should be by Monday.

    Hi Stacy!
Love the shadow pics…and so glad you had fun at Mt. Rushmore…it’s an awesome sight…and the story behind the making of it is even more amazing!
Will you be at the next critique meeting on Thursday Oct 18 at the East library at 1pm? Or at the SBCWI meeting on Sunday, Oct 21? I have a copy of Show Me How for you to give to Banning Lewis Ranch Academy…instead of mailing it, I could hand it to you then. 🙂 Otherwise, you can email me at vivian@positiveparentalparticipation.com

    1. Stacy S. Jensen

Vivian, Thanks. I sent you a message.

  15. Patricia T.

So nice for Enzo to spend time with his grandparents. Will check out your interview. I’ve been traveling too and will do so again soon.

    1. Stacy S. Jensen

      Patricia, Traveling is fun.

  16. Trisha

I like taking shadow pics too, sometimes 🙂

    1. Stacy S. Jensen

Nice to see I’m not the only one Trisha.

  17. Angie Mizzell

Add me to the group who loves the shadow pictures. I have so much fun chasing shadows, and trying to step on them, but I never think about photographing them. Sometimes moving, staying busy, or a shift in the daily routine can do wonders for our creativity. I hope you have fun “on the move”!

    1. Stacy S. Jensen

I have. Thanks. And, we step on shadows and chase them too.

  18. Debbie Maxwell Allen

Sounds like a wonderful trip. I know you’ll find a use for the shadow pictures!
