Memorial Day is filled with the history of the many men and women who have served in the United States. Today, I'm sharing TWENTY-ONE STEPS Guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by Jeff Gottesfeld and Matt Tavares. I end up reading this book once a year. It packs a lot of emotion in both words and illustration, which makes it a great children's book. You can learn more about those who made the ultimate sacrafice by researching the names you find on memorial benches and plaques. I've found them around my church and looked up the names of those who served to learn more about them. #mondayhistory #memorialday

Here’s some US history in a picture book. I AM AN AMERICA The Wong Kim Ark is written by Martha Brockenbrough with Grace Lin and illustrated by Julia Kuo. The book is about a young man who was born in the United States. He was American, but not everyone believed that. His case eventually went to the Supreme Court, where they ruled a person born in the United States is a US citizen. His victory changed the lives of many. A new case about birthright citizenship is with the Supreme Court now. This book takes a really big topic and makes it easier for children to understand. #USHistory #birthrightcitizenship #SupremeCourt
