In honor of Punxsutawney Phyllis’ 10th birthday, Author Susanna Leonard Hill announced a Phyllicelebration!

Folks were asked to write a poem or create a video to celebrate the occasion. I chose a video and quilled a #TeamWINTER and #TeamSPRING scene. You must forgive my quilling, as I’m still new and have never created a landscape scene before.

Roses are red.

Violets are blue.

Happy 10th Phyllis.

We love you.

#TeamSPRING

Thanks Heather. I need lots of practice and this project gave me plenty of it. 🙂

  2. Kathy Halsey

Wow, Stacy, I had never heard of quilling- it is so textural. TEAM Spring, baby. Cute video.

    1. stacy

      Thanks Kathy! Yes #TeamSPRING

  3. Jarm Del Boccio

This is fabulous, Stacy! Great job. And I know Phyllis will be honored, even if she can find her way out of the snowpile today.

    1. stacy

      Thanks Jarm.

Team Spring all the way, baby! (But a shout out to Team Winter, too. Very impressive stuff, Stacy! And happy Groundhog’s Day!)

    1. stacy

Yes. Let’s hope for spring. I’ve been afraid to check out Phil’s prediction.

  5. Wendy Greenley

I have never seen quilling before! You are an illustrator, my dear friend!

    1. stacy

OK that made me laugh Wendy. You would think with all of the illustrator classes, I would have better composition… Sigh. Thanks for stopping by.

STACY! WOW! This is totally and completely awesome! I am SO impressed! (But then, you are always impressing we with your many talents!) Phyllis loves it so much that she says she is #TEAMSTACY! 🙂 Thank you so much for joining in the fun. Rest in your burrow and eat chocolate cake. Happy Groundhog Day!

    1. stacy

Whew … I was worried I would be called out for phoning in the “poem” part. 🙂 Chocolate … now that’s a great idea.

    Lovely!
Glad to see quilling making a comeback. I remember doing it as a Girl Scout project I think – but lived next to a paper mill so paper crafts were always popular.
    Go Phyllis! Happy 10th!

    1. stacy

I’m old school like that Cathy! I love paper crafts and Phyllis!

  8. Lori Ann Levy-Holm

    1. stacy

      Thanks Bekah!

  10. Catherine Johnson

The quilling is fab. You could illustrate your own books with that. You are so great at making videos too.

    1. stacy

Oh wouldn’t that be a dream and a nightmare Catherine. I do love this, but am below novice. On Pinterest you can find some very lovely quilling artists. Shaping each blade of grass gave me lots of “thinking time.” I enjoy making videos. Of course, now I see I should have plopped in the cover in the first frame. Sigh. Maybe a do over later.

That quilling is amazing! You and your skills bedazzle! I think you just might want to teach a bit of video making at the next rmc scbwi con!

And I agree with Catherine. What an amazing new thing to do for pb illustrations. It will rock the pb world, honey.

  16. Patricia Tilton

What a clever video. And, the quilling must have taken some time. I love it. Am with you on #TeamSPRING!

    1. stacy

Thanks Patricia. It did. Those blades of grass are small! This pushed me to try a different project. Yes. Stinkers on more Winter, but I know in Colorado it may snow as late as May. However, if it snows on Mother’s Day again I may cry. I’m warning everyone ahead of time.
